Hello everyone. I have been a bit quiet this spring as I process some choices. This business is a side project for me, and it still costs me money at times (we are not profitable beyond a few hundred bucks here and there, a lot of work for little payout). The policies of the current administration have skyrocketed the costs associated with this business. I can no longer afford to purchase in plants from other growers. I am having a hard time sourcing pots, potting soil ingredients, and other inputs. I can no longer afford to hire help.

I have come to the decision that it is time to fold this business and return to growing on a hobby level. I will no longer be doing off site sales. I will still have a handful of hourly consultation slots, and if you have been a previous client, I can still provide some basic garden care services. But I will not be able to do installation projects anymore.

I will be selling off the remainder of my stock and growing on a smaller scale. I will be keeping this page to post what I have available as I grow new things, but I will not be posting interactive and educational content on Meta any longer as I do not support them as an organization. I will be working on a new way to share content through some other method, and I will update here once I figure that out.

This is not a complete goodbye, but the business is being folded. I will now be a hobbyist, and services and products will be greatly reduced in offerings.

I cannot afford to let stock go at bargain basement prices, so please do not expect massive discounts on prices despite this being a going out of business sale. I will give discounts to anyone who orders at least 25 plants total. You must pay in cash as I have had to get rid of my payment processer and quickbooks. I am sorry but I will need to give you prices and quantities as you request plants, I cannot get a full inventory up in a timely manner. Many of the below have limited quantities. Not all my plants are old enough or mature enough to sell, so I will have a few new things come online in a couple weeks or so. Please be patient with me as I navigate the dispersal of what was once my dream. Please email orders to kayla@thewildmidwestllc.com, do not send orders to messenger as I have deleted it and will not see them.

About Us…

  • Our dream at The Wild Midwest is to heal and empower: to reduce habitat loss, build healthy soil, mitigate climate change, clean and preserve our water resources, and increase biodiversity within wild and domestic spaces alike. This is why we have expanded our mission to include agriculture. Often considered an enemy of wild spaces, reforms within agriculture have the potential to make an impact far beyond the residential and even commercial scale landscapes within urban areas. Within Illinois alone, 75 million acres are devoted to agriculture.

People tell us a lot that they want to do the right thing ecologically, but they don't know how. It's hard in our area to find native perennials and heritage livestock, let alone designers who know how to integrate them. But it is more than possible to incorporate these plants and animals into our landscapes. The Wild Midwest wants to expand public awareness and make life-centric landscape planning more accessible.

  • Modern agriculture has made incredible gains in efficiency of food production. A byproduct of this focus on efficiency of weight gain and efficiency of calories produced per dollar has lead to a precipitous drop in the number of breeds and species cultivated. Older breeds and genetics often retain important characteristics, such as genetic diversity, maternal instincts, ease of birthing, disease resistance, flavor, foraging capability, and the list goes on. Just like conservation of diversity in wildlife, conservation of diversity in domestic species is crucial to a sustainable future.

  • We provide quite a few services including garden and landscape design and management plans, seed grown, wild-type native plants, soil testing and soil health consultation, and hourly work such as prep, maintenance, installation, and sourcing.
